Yesterday when I was getting James out of the car after school, he asked if we could go get the mail.
I told him it was Martin Luther King's Birthday and a little about who he was. I also let him know that there wasn't any mail because of the holiday.
He looked at me and said "Happy New Year Jesus?!" and starts nodding his head like its the best celebration yet!
I don't think I have laughed that hard in a while.
Every night this month when I say goodnight to James and leave his room, he says "Happy New Year!" I suppose it still is a new year sweet boy.
He was all about singing and celebrating Jesus' birthday at Christmas and then the New Year happened and he went ahead and included Jesus in that celebration too.
So tonight after we had gotten settled and George had come home James asked again, "Happy New Year Jesus? Yeah" head nodding yes. "Where Happy New Year Jesus?"
He was asking to play with the Nativty set that we used in Jesus' birthday celebration. Innocently enough he was asking for his favorite part of celebrating the birthday, the cookie.
We had already packed it away, but the boxes were still nearby. George and I looked at each other in a moment of Parent Panic. I mean he was asking to play with Jesus. How do you say no to that? So we pulled it out and set it up again. He was so excited and then of course he asked for a cookie. I told him that I didn't think Jesus was hungry. He paused for a minute and went back to playing. Thinking I had dodged the cookie debate, he turned around and said "Jesus, hungry." "Cookie?"
So we pulled out some raisins and shared them with the crew...complete with pretend chomping sounds.
That boy is so sweet, looking out for his friend Jesus. Of course Jesus is hungry Mama, he's always willing to sit and eat with us.
