James at 2 and 2 1/2

James you are two! You are about 32 pounds and about 35.5 inches tall and your head is still in the 95%. Don't worry, we think its just your beautiful fluffy blonde hair that makes it seem so big :)

At two years old you are talking like crazy. Forming sentences and and stringing different thoughts together.

You know more words than we can count and are always eager to learn new things. Your dad has also been teaching you Greek and you know many vocabulary words. You've yet to put together sentences in Greek, but you can follow simple commands.

You still run most places you go and we often have to remind you to walk, but truly skipping is your favorite mode of transportation. You usually do this while singing "skip to my lou." It's very cute.

And singing...you love to sing! Your favorite songs are "wheels on the bus," "Jingle Bells," "The B-I-B-L-E song" - which you request as "Bible" in your most Southern accent, and " Twinkle Twinkle" I'm always impressed with how many songs you are able to recite.

You are still a great eater. With some encouragement, you will usually eat most everything we give you. Your favorites are cheese - any kind, fruit - any kind, and oatmeal with dip (sunbutter or nut butter) on top. You love to help me grocery shop and have a great memory when it comes to my grocery list. You've saved me several times from leaving the store without something!

You love to talk about everything! Did I already mention that? You love to dictate everything you see around you especially when we're in the car. On the way home from school our trip sounds like this: Ooohh ambulance, taxi! Look at that crane mama! Mama go that way! (I tell him that way is yucky traffic) you then repeat "Yucky traffic". Bump bump bump (as we go over speed bumps), Mama play soccer ball (as we pass the fields), Look mama all these school buses. Where Liam's house? Where's Grant? Where's Grace? (as we pass by his friends houses). And then we're home. That's our route every day. And every day you say all of those things and more. Usually we pass several mail trucks and people running and doggies and and and. You don't miss a thing James!

My favorite thing you say as we're driving is "All these ____, Mama!" Insert any word: doggies, tractors, trucks, lawn mowers, whatever you see. As long as there's more than two, you say with great emphasis "all these tractors, Mama!" Cracks me up every time.

And just because I'll probably want to remember how you slept one day, you are a great night time sleeper. Unless you are sick you snooze right through. Mostly in crazy positions laying shortways across your crib. I'm pretty sure this means we need to move you up to a big boy bed very soon. Naps are a different story. Some days you conk out for 2 to 3 hours and other days you lay in there and talk to your stuffed animals for 2 to 3 hours. You now sleep with bear, pink bunny, banana, and our version of Monkey George. They each have a spot in the crib and you're very particular about making sure thats where they are every morning when you wake up. Speaking of mornings, most weekends you spoil us rotten and sleep late, which in kid world is around 8am. And then sometimes you wake up happy enough to spend another hour in there just hanging out with your friends. We love that you inherited our love for sleeping in!

You still love to be outside. You love to ride your bike, push the lawn mower, ride in your car, collect acorns, pick flowers and bring them to mama, sweep the deck, play in the sand box or at the water table, and swinging is your favorite thing to do. I always dread picking you up from school when you're outside swinging in the swings. I know it'll be a fight every time, but I'm grateful you love it so much!

The other night we were reading in his Bible about how God created us, so I used it as a teaching moment. I asked him, "James who made you?" He answered "Mama and Mpampa." I couldn't argue with that, but the real question is WHO taught him that!?

James at 2 1/2!

James you weigh 35 pounds and are about 38 and a smidge inches tall. You still have gorgeous fluffy blonde hair that I refuse to cut short, for fear it'll grow back a different color. For the last couple months you've been sleeping in your new big boy bed in your new big boy room. You did better than we could have ever hoped for with this transition. There has been no lack of sleep and you seem excited to climb in most nights. I'm sure it had to do with the fact that you helped Mpampa put together the beds. You tell everyone who asks about how you went "bang, bang, bang with the hammer" to put them together.

You are such a happy boy, James. We love your energy and eagerness to learn new things. You love to play outside and are learning to kick and throw and catch. You have also loved working in the garden with Mpampa this summer. Your favorite thing to do besides dig in the dirt is to pick the ripe tomatoes off the plant. You always want to eat them right away. In addition to your big boy bed you've also helped Mpampa with many projects around the house. Its adorable when you run to get your tool box so you can help him work on the next project.

This summer you have also really started to enjoy swimming. We got you a puddle jumper and its been the best thing for you. You are jumping off the side of the pool and when we went to the beach we had to drag you from the ocean. We only wish we could take you more often.

You are doing very well in school. You love your teachers and your friends and your best friend is Kosta. No lie, the little Greek boy found the little Russian boy and you're inseparable! He's the only one you really want to share your toys with. You talk with your teachers a lot and ask them questions all day long. They've been helping you understand that we are about to have another baby in the house. It's great to hear you talking about the baby in mama's belly and how you keep asking if its coming out yet. At school you have taken a liking to this one particular baby doll. Everyone in the class knows its yours and you take very good care of her. I often find you at the end of the day holding her while playing with your trucks or blocks or trains. It always makes me smile and reminds me of what a good big brother you will be. You've also transitioned to a new class and its been a great change for you! You've always had wonderful teachers, but you and your new teacher Ms. Judy understand each other so well. She challenges you in all the right ways and encourages your unique characteristics. Such a blessing to your mama!

You are still talking a blue streak. Most days we can't get you to stop, unless of course you are watching your favorite show "Monkey George" (Curious George). I'm not sure what it is about this show, but you LOVE it. You also love to read books and are always asking for just one more. You are able to sit still and listen to long books for a toddler. I'm always amazed. You are asking so many questions and logically putting together ideas. You take your dad and I by surprise a lot with the things you are able to comprehend and verbalize. We're also shocked when you recall specific details from many many months ago. Just the other day you told me how and where we put our Christmas tree last year, I didn't even remember!

Here are some of the funny things you've said lately:

Whenever you hear a familiar sound you put both hands to your eyes, put on a total look of surprise and say "what's that sound I hear?!"

Picture a guy that looks like Carrot Top with a fro walking down the sidewalk: You say “woah, Mama. That’s BIG hair!” I was just grateful we were in the car with the windows rolled up.

This summer you were really into Popsicle Yogurts. One night after dinner you said to us “I wanna popsicle yogurt. Say yes.” As you were nodding your head. It was cute and convincing.

There’s not much you can’t say at this point. You make us laugh on a daily basis. We love you sweet boy and your funny personality!
