This morning I voted. I stood in line at the Chamblee Civic Center reading my book from the Chamblee library for about an hour. Not too bad considering the hype. I didn’t vote early in order to enjoy the thrill of Election Day voting. It did not disappoint. There were friendly faces passing out granola bars and waters. Another voter brought munchkin donuts to share. I chatted with the lady behind me about where her daughter could find pants that are long enough. I saw a few ladies from neighborhood supper club. There was a friendly “twenty-something” checking in new voters and handing out sample ballots and difficult to comprehend copies of new amendments. All in all this experience confirmed my love of Chamblee. It really does feel like home when you fit in with your fellow polling location voters. Yes, there is diversity here too, but we all feel at home in Chamblee. It’s nice to feel a part of something bigger and more powerful than yourself. To fight for a cause, and to support the local merchants. I have long been a supporter of exercising your right to vote, and today am I a proud Georgia voter. A quick shout out to my faithful Grandmother, who year after year eagerly works the polling locations. What a giving and patriotic heart she has. And to conclude my ballot today, I voted to let the little kiddies have the freedom to choose their clothing each morning when they trot off to school.
With my new sticker I headed to Starbucks. I had heard the rumor about a free tall coffee with proof of sticker. But, I caved and bought a $4 Peppermint Mocha instead, my holiday season weakness. A big thank you to consumerism who extended the holiday season to include November AND January. I hope this is the first of many minty delights for me. Starbucks also brought with it many “Thank you for voting” comments from fellow voters I can only assume. My sticker makes me walk a little taller today, because those folks at Starbucks…they understand how important it is to act on this right. Then there was the young man at a table outside by himself, reading “How to get a date worth keeping.” Single ladies, head on over to the Starbucks on Johnson Ferry. There’s a nice young fellow interested in dating for all the right reasons.
Dear Chamblee,
Thanks for having me and MY “nice young fellow.” We hope to stay and grow here awhile.
Warmly,
The Koul Kids.
