On Saturday, October 23rd James George was baptized. We had the ceremony at the Greek church, the same place George and I were married. In the Greek culture, babies are given their names at their baptism. We choose Dimitrios as his baptismal name after George’s dad. In America Dimitrios is often translated to Jimmy or James. George’s dad goes by Jimmy and we have a James!
There was a lot of preparation that went into this special day for James. We were so happy to finally be at the church to celebrate James becoming a child of God.
The table set up for the ceremony
At the beginning of the ceremony the Godparents are asked to declare their faith in Christ.
James with his godparents Golfo and her son Peter.
This picture was taken right after the warm water on James’ toes caused him to relieve himself into the baptismal font. Too funny!
Baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Anointed with oil and putting on the cross of Christ.
The grandmothers dressing him in white.
As a celebration, other baptized children walk around the font with candles.
Receiving communion for the first time.
The happy boy with his parents and godparents
With George’s godparents, who are also Golfo’s parents.
With the proud grandparents
The cousins thought James looked like a little pilgrim. He certainly is the cutest pilgrim I’ve ever seen!
We decided to have the reception for our family back at our home. George and I spent every available moment up until the baptism unpacking, organizing, cleaning and planning this celebration. We were so thankful to finally get to enjoy the event! James also blessed us by napping for over 2 hours after we got home.
The favors lovingly made by my parents and us.
Both of our parents were such a huge help in pulling this event together. Whether it was cooking, prepping, organizing or just keeping us sane…we were so grateful for their help.
We got his cake from our local Publix. The ladies in the bakery were so pleased to make this cake for our sweet boy. They did a great job and were just so nice. However, I couldn’t believe how big it was! So of course we had to do a size comparison with James.
Please don’t tell the guests we put the cake on the floor and that the baby almost ate it.
Safe and sound on the table…no one was the wiser :)
Congratulations Dimitrios James George. We love you and look forward to showing you the love of Jesus. May God bless you always.

Wow! What an event! Such a sweet time for y'all:) And nothing like being baptized in pee - HA! That cake is amazing too. A James sized cake! He certainly is a cutie!
What a beautiful ceremony, Kate! I can't believe he relieved himself in the baptismal font - definitely a story for the baby book! Precious little rascal.
