Busy, busy, busy is how I would describe you this month James.
You are 21 pounds 6 ounces (50-75%), 27.5 inches long (25-50%), and have an 80% head. We’re pretty sure you wiggled during the length measurement at some point since your growth appeared to have leveled off. And your dad and I can attest that you don’t like lying still on your back.
Diaper changes and getting you dressed is like running a marathon. You want to roll over and sit up and grab things out of the basket and when you can’t do these things you scream. Very loudly for the entire changing session. It’s exhausting for everyone involved.
You have switched to hand over hand crawling half of the time now. You have to resort to “the worm” style sometimes when you refuse to drop the toys in your hands. Crawling has led to pulling up and climbing.
And ending up in strange places like under the dining room table. You love your new found freedom and challenging your dad and I to keep up with you. We and you are learning your limits. This month has been full of bumps, bruises and boo boo reports from school. You’ve taken each one in stride and are still eager to try again.
You still LOVE to jump and smile. Especially when you’re spending time with dad.
This month was also your first Halloween. You sported some cute orange pants to school in honor of the big day. You also enjoyed carving the pumpkin with Mpampa. You weren’t so keen on the insides of the pumpkin but we enjoyed sharing this first with you.
We went to a neighborhood party and you were an adorable little monkey, complete with your banana prop.
Meal times are more and more exciting with you. You love finger foods and are eating more complex combinations. And for the first time we all three ate the same thing for dinner! We’re on our way to family suppers. Cheerios end up in the darnest places, don’t they James.
But, with more and more finger foods…you are more and more messy. Luckily you still love bath time and thats where you end up after these meals. Baths a struggle for your mom and dad, however. I’m not sure how other parents do it, but its all I can do to soap you up and rinse you off while you’re pulling up, standing up, turning around, splashing water, and screeching. EXHAUSTING. Did I say that already?
By the time you go down for the night, your dad and I are beat. But, we love every minute we spend with you James. You are always discovering something new and we love watching you grow.
This month you’ve also been a lot more lovey. You’ve fallen asleep in my shoulder a few times. You haven’t done that since you were very little. You’re also starting to give hugs and are in a “wanting mama” stage. Warms my heart. But, when your dad walks in the door from work at night you screech (of course) at the top of your lungs and head straight for him.
Glory is also the recipient of some of your hugs. She loves you very much too James. Laney is a little wary of your new movements. She typically runs the other way when you go after her.
We feel like several things have clicked for you this month. You understand things like pushing your arms through your sleeves when getting dressed, saying bye bye and clapping, and screeching for things you want. You also like to find toys that we hide for you.
Your favorite toy this month are a yellow ball and a purple ball. You don’t go anywhere without these toys. You crawl with them, ride in the car with them, take them to church, to friends houses and to your crib for a nap. If the ball is in the room you must be holding it. It’s so cute to see you understanding your favorite thing.
Your monthly photo shoot is getting harder and harder.
You love paper and its hard to distract you away from grabbing the sign. We tried giving you a decoy piece this month, but you were too smart for that.
This is the best shot we got this month.
And with the chick.
Sitting like a big boy in your rocking chair.
Pulling mama’s hair, but loving being up so high.
James, sweet son, we love you so much. Thank you for bringing laughter to our days and joy to our hearts. And thank you for helping us build strong muscles to keep up with you.
