In October we headed up to Kodak, Tennessee to celebrate the life of my grandmother with all of her family. Grams was one of seven children and she was the only one to move away from Kodak. So needless to say she has a lot of kin in Kodak and they all joined us in a day to honor Grams.
My dad worked so hard to pull together a family cook out at the picnic pavilion overlooking the Great Smoky Mountains, a place my grandmother always loved to go. For the occasion Grams called up the most beautiful weather I’ve ever seen. Perfect for her day.
When I think back on this day with family to honor Grams, I just can’t believe what a gift this time was. I have never been more relaxed and peaceful. There was no agenda, just time together with family. George and I just laid in the grass with our sweet baby boy and honestly enjoyed being together. We simply lived in the moment. I am so grateful for these memories.
Precious cousin Anna Jane was truly a gift from God that day. In the days leading up to this event, I worried how James would do. Would he cling to me and whine? Would he get a nap? Turns out he didn’t get a nap, but he did have Anna Jane. An angel in my book. She kept this boy entertained all day long. They played together like they'd been friends forever. I loved watching them together.
Sweet baby cousin Ryan also enjoyed the sunshine.
James also enjoyed some rough and tumble time with the boy cousins. They were so cute playing together. Ranging in age from 10 years to 10 months, you would have never known by watching them. All they needed was a big open field and a football. James was in hog heaven.
I have so many fun memories of this weekend. Like our visit to the only pizza place in town next to the only stop sign in town. And how when we arrived at the hotel the Avett Brothers were playing an outdoor concert right next door! Outdoors, right next door!! So of course that meant family dance party in the parking lot of the hotel, even though it was way past James’ bedtime. But, it was ok because the weekend was about family and enjoying our time together. Grams wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
We miss you Grams. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.
