Bed time is the best time

But not in the way you think.

Yes, its fabulous to finally relax after a day of non-stop James or even an evening of whiney James after school, but that’s not what makes bed time the best time.

It warms my heart so much to snuggle with my baby after his bath with his dad. To sit in the rocking chair together reading his favorite books. To teach him new things and to hear about the new things he’s been learning.

After we’ve gone through his favorites, we gather up his blankie and settle in for some lullabies. I sing the songs my mother sang to me and more of my favorites. We sing “Jesus Loves Me” with joy in our hearts and smiles on our faces. The way he just grins at me while I’m singing absolutely melts my soul.

And then I ask him if he’s ready for his prayers. He nods and says “ok.” I lay him down and then fold my hands in prayer. It takes him a minute to settle down and listen to me talking to God, but then the most remarkable thing happens. He stops twitching and babbling and moving and he stands up and holds my hands and listens. He listens with his whole heart. Sometimes he will even lean his head back, close his eyes and smile up at the Lord. And when I say “Amen,” he quickly lays down ready for sleep.

It gets me every time.

God is already at work in this little boy and at the end of a long day its just what this mama needs.

God is so good.
