Five whole months James, and you’ve accomplished so much! This month has been so much fun for us. You are discovering new things every day and developing tons of personality.
You understand whining and fussing to get our attention.
But for the most part you are all smiles.
You can’t get enough of your feet this month. At every diaper change they go straight to your mouth, and every time you’re in your car seat, and really any time you have the chance. Like in the grocery store one day you decided it was a good idea to lick your toes. Mama thought this might not be acceptable behavior for public, but it was super cute.
Feedings have also become an adventure. Gone are the days where you would peacefully eat and drift off to sleep. Now you are all about holding your own bottle – often with both hands AND both feet. You grunt and kick and squirm through every feeding. It’s like I’ve just run a marathon after every feeding!
And everything that looks like a bottle must be a bottle. And you go for it!
You are able to reach for and pick up most things you’re after these days.
You also love to smile and laugh. Things that are sure to get a smile or laugh are songs (you especially like “If you’re happy and you know it”), jumping or being lifted into the air, and the dogs. This month you have started paying closer attention to the pups and you’ve realized what crazy messes they are. For the first time, you looked at them and laughed out loud at their antics. We of course ran for the video camera and caught this laugh on camera too! Adorable! When you laugh, you laugh with your whole body, drawing your hands up to your face and grinning from ear to ear. I can’t help but smile when I see that sweet face.
You are also very close to being able to sit up on your own. You used to just fold in half and fall forward when we sat you up, but now you use your stomach muscles to catch yourself. I can’t wait to see you master this next step.
My favorite time to spend with you every day is in the morning. I get you up from your crib, wrap you in a blanket and snuggle you while you have your breakfast. And when you’re finished, you are the most calm you’ll be all day. You are content to just lounge on the bed next to me, playing with you feet. I look forward to this quality time with you everyday.
You are a water baby through and through. When you see me getting your bath tub down you start jumping in my arms. You can’t wait to get in the bath to start playing with your feet, and of course try to drink as much bath water as possible. You’re smart too. You figured out if you can get your hands on the wash cloth and suck on that it’s much easier to drink the bath water.
And the more wash cloths, the better.
You are eating well, and growing everyday. You still sleep through the night, with the occasional fussy wake up at 4 or 5am. Naps continue to be only 30 minutes at a time, about 3 per day.
We’re not sure how much you weigh now, but you’re definitely getting heavier. Your WHITE BLONDE hair is coming in more and more. Have I told you how excited I am that your hair is white blonde and your eyes are blue? It’s like you’re our kid or something!
You are such a sweet and happy boy, I can’t wait for what next month has in store. We love you James George.

The picture of James holding the empty milk gallon is hilarious! I love reading about and looking at photos of my adorable nephew. Keep up the posts, Kate!
