mnemonic

One of James’ new nicknames is angel baby. (Given to him by his Mimi.) Only grandmothers know that their grandchildren are angels all the time.

Speaking of the word angel, I always have to spell it out both ways to know which way is correct: angel or angle. Now some of you may be smarter than me and never struggle with this word, but it gets me every time.

So I always spell it out both ways first before committing, but today I came up with a promising mnemonic. I think about how the word is said out loud. An-Gel. Gel, like hair gel. I wouldn’t pronounce it hair gle would I? So there you have it. Angel = Hair Gel in my head. Makes perfect sense right?

I also came up with another pneumonic recently. As in yesterday, when I posted my crazy day post.

James’ pediatrician is Dr. Wiess.

Go ahead say it out loud. How do you pronounce it?
Dr. Wice? Dr. Weece?

We Love Dr. Wice/Weece don’t get me wrong, I just can’t for the life of me remember how to pronounce his name. He’s the one who saw James in the hospital when he was born and he’s also the one who handed James to us and said “He likes to be held, good luck.” Ahh, doctor humor.

Anyways, when I was making James’ appointment with Dr. Wice/Weece I pronounced it wrong. Doh!

So I decided this situation called for a pneumonic. Here it goes:

“Dr. Ice Ice Baby, Dr. Wice.” You’re singing aren’t you?

Get it, he cares for babies…Ice, ice baby. HA! Stupid, perhaps. Childish, yes but also completely fitting.

I now know that Dr. Wiess is actually Dr. Wice.

I think.
