James has been “talking” a lot more lately. His latest trick is to say “No” to the things he’s not supposed to be doing. This doesn’t mean he stops doing the things he’s not supposed to though. We’re trying hard not to laugh at his antics.
His favorite word to say is “da-da,” except in our house we’re not sure who or what “da-da” is. I go by Mama, the thicker the southern accent the better, ha! And George goes by Mpampa, pronounced “bu-bah,” the thicker the Greek accent the better! We’ve resolved that “da-da” must be the dogs.
He’s also saying “this,” and “that,” and “na-na” which might mean nap or nani (the Greek word for night-night.) Interpreting baby talk is hard enough, but adding in Greek words is quite the challenge!
James LOVES to talk on the phone. He holds up just about anything that resembles a phone next to his ear and says “hoh!” which is his “hello.” It is about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. He has the best expression too…like he’s surprised at whomever is on the other end of the phone. Needless to say the grandparents are eating up this new trick and love talking with James on the phone, until he hangs up on them because he’s mashing too many buttons.
The other night James was sick and I had just rocked him for a quick 30 minute nap. George came home and took James to hold him. James looked back at me and said “mama!” Insert Kate’s heart melting here. It was the first time he had really said one of our names with accuracy. Love my sweet James!
James is also taking a few steps now and then. He has started standing more on his own and if distracted enough will take steps towards something he really wants. Meanwhile George and I are trying to secure the valuables before he’s a full blown walker!
We’re also taking bets on whether or not James will be walking before he has teeth. Any takers?
