School Days

I dropped James off for school this morning pleaded with his teachers to help him nap more during the day because he’sabout to drive me mad! They laughed in understanding, and I nodded in understanding that its just not gonna happen no matter how much I plead.

Earlier this week we received the Infant Room Class Newsletter. The teachers give little updates on each child’s progress. The little babies are doing things like learning to roll over or trying out solid foods, or just sitting and watching the older ones in wonder. The older babies are learning to crawl, pull up, cruise and walk.

Want to know what my kid is up to?

And I quote, “James is the busy body of the room. He’s into EVERYTHING!!”

Just like that, capitalization, two exclamation points and all. I’m pretty sure he’s about to drive them mad too.

James is one of those kids that refuses to nap at school. There’s too much going on and heaven forbid he miss anything!

This lack of nap results in the loudest baby I’ve ever met. He wakes up squawking and squawks   all   day   long.  He is far too busy to sit still for his morning bottle and screams in protest. When you give him big kid food instead it’s a race against the clock before he’s screaming for more.

By the end of the day when I pick him up, I can hear him squealing from down the hall. And then he makes noise the whole way home. It’s usually a mix of squealing with excitement, blowing bubbles and screaming at the top of his lungs at things like his socks when he’s unable to pull them off. Socks people! They’re just socks dear James! And don’t even get me started on the shoes. We choose not to wear them these days. Trust me I have my reasons.

It’s a good day when I can get him to take a nap when we get home. The good day turns bad when he wakes up screaming 30 minutes later. And when he’s up, he’s up. Going non stop until he crashes. And then as soon as he hits the crib…he’s rolling around, talking to himself, squealing and squawking until he finally falls asleep.

Don’t get me wrong, James is a very happy baby and we love him more than words can say. But, darn if he ain’t exhaustingly LOUD!

We’ve asked our parents if we were like this as kids. They tell us no. I’m not sure who this gene came from, but when we find them they’re babysitting for free.

OH I feel your pain! Stella has always been the same way! She's almost 3.5 and it still isn't any better - not to be the bearer of bad news:) And, trust me, I totally get the no shoes thing!!! We need an I-Have-A-Loud-Child-And-They-Are-Driving-Me-Nuts support group:)
