12 Months Old

In all the posting about James’ birthday, I haven’t done an official 12 month post yet! So I’ll write this as if it were two weeks ago.

Sweet, sweet baby James. You are now ONE YEAR OLD and we couldn’t be more proud of the little boy you have become. You are so inquisitive and are starting to figure out little tricks with your toys. This block makes a little whistle when you do this and it cracks you up!

You also like to crawl right to your food cabinet, fling it open and pull out your container of puffies. You know just how to open it and reach in for a snack. We have since put the child locks on these doors, much to your chagrin.

You are a great eater, James! Your friends at school know you as the boy who will eat anything. You love most fruits and veggies and still love your sweet potatoes and avocados. You could eat black beans by the fist full and often you do! Still no teeth yet for you so most meats are a challenge to eat. We do let you take bites out of bananas and this brings you so much joy to eat like we do.

This is the last jar of baby food for you James! You reached deep into your cabinet and pulled it out to show me.

Later in the month we ended up mixing it with your antibiotic for your ear infection. Not exactly ceremonial, but worth it for your dad and I to not have to fight with you to take your meds. This round of ear infection was rough for all of us. You were so sick and miserable, but your dad and I did get to stay home with you to help you get better.

This month was also a crazy hair month for you. It has really started to grow out with flip outs and whispys around the ears.

I love these sweet chubby cheeks and blonde locks.

Did I mention you are busy? Your teachers called you a speed racer in the monthly newsletter…we’d say that’s about right.

You are also starting to interact more and more with your friends at school. Right now on your side of the classroom you are the only boy among 3 girls. They are all walking and like to mother you and play with you. You, however, like to use your speed racer skills to keep them on your toes!

We enjoy you so much James. You know just how to make us laugh.

I Love. My son. So very much.

Your grandparents brought over some of my old toys for you to play with. These waffle blocks were a hit for both you and your dad who got right to work constructing the perfect push toy for you.

You are still a great sleeper at night. We crack up every night as we check out how you’re sleeping on the monitor. It’s usually with one leg up on the side of the crib or face planted into the bumper. Your dad likes to call you “a pillow kind of guy".” You are FINALLY sleeping better for naps at home. We can often get you to take a 2 hour nap on the weekends. At school you are still a 30 minute napper. This is quite possibly the hardest part of school/work for me. Short naps leave you super cranky come dinner time. We’re hoping you start sleeping longer stretches at school soon.

At 12 months you were 24 pounds 1 ounce (50-75%), 30 inches tall (50%), and your head circumference is 49.5cm (75-90%).

You and your cute pudgyness and whispy hair!

You’ve been practicing your whistle lately…its adorable!!

You are getting more adventurous on the playground too. The swing is still your favorite but you also love to slide and climbing the stairs.

You also love to talk on the phone, err remote. Pretty much anything that looks like a phone will work for you.

You have developed so much personality. We love watching all your facial expressions.

Thank you, James, for being such a happy and loving child. We are so grateful to be your parents and look forward to many, many, many more years with you!!
